The Art of Balance: Lessons from My Journey

Finding balance has been a huge part of my life for years, especially in my work as a mama mindset coach. I’ve always helped mothers find balance within the chaos of motherhood. But my journey with myeloma has opened my eyes to a whole new level of how essential balance is, not just in managing an illness, but in every aspect of life.

Here’s what I’ve been learning:

Balancing Gut Feeling with Treatment

It’s a dance between doing what the doctors say and believing in what you know to be right for yourself. Being your own advocate is crucial throughout routine checkups, pre-diagnosis, and every stage of treatment. Finding that middle ground has been key to being true to myself, keeping my spirits up, and my body strong.

Activity vs. Rest

I’ve had to tune in closely to my body, knowing when to push myself to do routine activities that keep me smiling and when to just curl up for a good rest. Listening to what my body needs was very foreign to me. I was used to telling it what to do, but learning to listen has been a game changer.

Work-Life Harmony

Having myeloma made me rethink my priorities big time. I’ve been setting boundaries, allowing and asking for help when I need it (something I had never done before), and making sure I have quality time for the people I love, things I enjoy and healing. It’s all about creating a life that feels good, aligned and fulfilling.

Optimism and Realism

I stay positive but keep it real. Hope is a powerful healer, yet being realistic keeps me prepared for whatever comes next. Healing was my priority, so I needed to listen to reality to understand my situation and the action needed, but then immediately go back into my crystal bubble. It's all about balancing the highs and hope with a dose of reality to keep you grounded. That way you are aware of all possible outcomes but choose the one you focus your energy on.

Acceptance and Action

I understood that accepting my diagnosis didn’t mean giving in. It meant understanding my limits and then doing everything I can within those boundaries. It’s about not letting myeloma define me, my schedule, or my life, but about readjusting to a new norm that can keep me healthy, happy and that I believe is better for me in the long run.

This journey has taught me so much about living a balanced life, and I hope these insights can help you too.
