Transforming Life Through New Habits

Life often throws us unexpected challenges, do not be mistaken, they are not what define us but it’s how we respond to them that shapes our journey. Today, I want to share how changing my habits has become a transformative power in my life, particularly through my journey with cancer. This experience has profoundly reshaped my perspectives on health, happiness, and well-being.

Prioritizing Self-Care

My diagnosis compelled me to reassess my priorities, placing self-care at the forefront of my daily routine. All those ‘should do’ tasks were no longer suggestions to “one day” do. Listening more attentively to my body and intuition, prioritizing rest, and making choices that enhance my physical and emotional health have been vital in managing my symptoms and improving my quality of life. I must admit, this is something I have never done before. My self-care practice began with mindset shifts in my inner dialogue towards myself, my daily struggles and my surroundings.

Embracing Healthy Habits

Following my diagnosis, I deliberately adopted habits that would support my body’s healing. Nourishing myself with a wide variety of whole, healthy, anti-inflammatory foods, clean water, engaging in mild exercise to maintain muscle mass and blood flow, and practicing the art of intentional living have not only improved my physical condition but also boosted my mental and emotional well-being.

Letting Go of Negative Patterns

Myeloma highlighted the importance of releasing negative behaviors, toxic relationships, and self-limiting beliefs. Becoming aware of and slowly letting go of these heavy loads has freed me from much of the mental and emotional weight they carried. Let me tell you, it’s one hell of a process, and it’s ongoing, but every layer peeled away is one step closer to fostering a greater sense of peace and empowerment.

Embracing Flexibility and Adaptability

Comprehending that I will be living with a chronic illness has underscored the need for flexibility and adaptability. This readiness to adapt and flow with whatever comes my way has been crucial in navigating life’s challenges with resilience and grace. I believe motherhood enhanced the fluency of this skill and helped me beat cancer’s butt.

Though this journey has been filled with tough moments, it has also been a powerful catalyst for my personal growth and transformation. There was no option of waiting for the natural flow. By altering my habits and embracing new ways of thinking and acting, I’ve uncovered a deeper sense of balance, positivity, well-being, resilience, and peace.

I encourage you to reflect on your habits and consider how even one or two small changes could profoundly impact your life. Whether it’s enhancing self-care, adopting healthier routines, or shedding detrimental patterns, these adjustments can lead to significant transformations.
